The Information Office of the Council of Europe was established under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Council of Europe and the Republic of Poland on July 4th,
2002.
The Office is an integral part of the Council of Europe.
It replaced the Information Centre on the Council of Europe,
set up in 1990 and incorporated then to the Warsaw University Centre for Europe.
The Centre was dissolved at the time of the creation of the Information Office.
The original role of the Centre was to support the local government reform but it has been expanded over time.
Now it is the responsibility of the Office:
Participation in the Council of Europe's Projects
In co-operation with the Council of Europe,
academics,
the State administration,
and NGOs,
the Office organises conferences,
seminars,
and campaigns on the issues faced by contemporary Europe.
Promotion and Education
The Office promotes the Council of Europe and its achievements by:
-
publications (the Bulletin published since 1992,
The Council of Europe Documents series,
books,
and brochures); -
Polish translations of the Council of Europe's conventions and other documents; - giving access to the Council of Europe's documentation and information to general public.
The Library of the Office is the largest Polish collection of the Council of Europe's documents and publications.
It also houses other publications relating to the Organisation and its activities.
