[10/07/2009] 20-24 May 2009, The CoE was a Guest of Honour of the 54. International Book Fair in Warsaw. The CoE stand at the IBF – the biggest (300 m2) stand in the main hall of the Palace of Culture and Science, was organised by the IOCE. The main idea was to present the activities of the CoE and its publications. The Fair was held under the honorary auspices of the President of Poland. The main hosts of the event were the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Marshall of Mazovian Voivoidship, and the Mayor of the City of Warsaw. About 500 participants and 52 000 visitors took part in the biggest Polish book fair.

The IOCE Warsaw has prepared a number of activities:

20 May. Opening ceremony – concert of the Academic Choir of the University of Warsaw. 200 participants.
21 May (targeted specifically at professionals). Promotion of the book “60 Years of the Council of Europe. Setting and implementation of legal standards” (published by the IOCE), by H. Machinska.
21 May. Promotion of language learning materials – presentation of publications (CODN and ECML Graz)
22 May. Conference on Safety measures in internet – CoE standards, organised by IOCE Warsaw and Orange Foundation. Presentation of CoE standards and programs concerning safety in electronic media. 90 participants
22 May. Promotion of the CoE campaign “Speak-out against discrimination” in sport organised by the IOCE. Meeting with Ms Elżbieta Radziszewska, Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Status, famous sportsmen and sportswomen (Olympic winners), and sport journalists; signing of a petition against discrimination in sport; presentation of the publication “Legal instruments for combating racism on the Internet”.
22 May. Presentation of Polish version of “Compasito” (multimedia) by CODN with participation of the Vice-Minister of Education, Min. Krzysztof Stanowski, Government Plenipotentiary for Equal Status, Ms Elżbieta Radziszewska, and NGOS, journalists.
22 May. Promotion of the commemorative envelope prepared on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the CoE by Polish Post.
23 May. Promotion of the CoE campaign “Speak-out against discrimination” in sport organised by the IOCE. Meeting with famous sportsmen (Olympic winners), and sport journalists; signing of a petition against discrimination in sport; presentation of the publication “Legal instruments for combating racism on the Internet”.
23 May. Promotion of the CoE’s publication on civil education and human rights “Compasito” and language learning by the IOCE, ECML Graz and CODN.
23 May. “Parental control” – panel discussion on safety of children in the Internet organised by Microsoft and the IOCE.
23 May. Promotion of the book “60 Years of the Council of Europe. Setting and implementation of legal standards” (published by the IOCE), by H. Machinska.
23 May. Promotion of the CoE campaign “Raise your hand against smacking”. Presentation of the TV spot by Mr Marek Michalak (Ombudsman for Children Rights) and Ms Ewa Januszewicz (IOCE Warsaw); signing of a petition for banning corporal punishment of children; presentation of CODN materials.
23 May. Presentation of the publication for children ”Travel the Universe of Greater Europe”
24 May. Presentation of programme on children safety in Internet, prepared by Orange Foundation and Nobody's Children Foundation.
24 May. Promotion of the CoE campaign “Speak-out against discrimination” in sport organised by the IOCE. Meeting with famous sportsmen (Olympic winners), and sport journalists; signing of a petition against discrimination in sport; presentation of the publication “Legal instruments for combating racism on the Internet”.
24 May. Presentation of Polish version of “Compasito” manual by CODN.
21-24 May. Internet café organised by the Orange Foundation.

During the fair 33 005 copies of documents/materials were distributed.
Number of persons involved in fairs: 3,5 staff and 30 volunteers.
